Neurodevelopmental Disorders
If a child has a disorganized response to sensory input, there is an imbalance within the central nervous system.
Many neurodevelopmental disorders, such as ADD, ADHD, autism, and learning disorders are a result of a lack of neurosensory integration. This is the ability to take in, process, organize, and integrate sensory information so that we feel comfortable and secure. We can then respond appropriately to given demands and situations. So how do we do this? Sensory integration: where we learn through our senses. What we see, what we hear, what we touch and what we experience through the perception of movement from our muscles and joints are our foundations for learning. It is a way to look at how the brain and the body work together to process sensory stimulation. There is an imbalance within the central nervous system if a child has a disorganized response to sensory input.
Research has found that learning disorders and dyslexia affect 3-10% of school-aged children. They have parts of their brain that are not functioning adequately or are delayed in their development. Research has found that chiropractic care is not only for adults with back pain. The only source of constant stimulation to the brain comes from the spine and its postural muscles constantly adjusting to the force of gravity. If the daily physical stresses of life cause misalignments in the spine, called vertebral subluxations, then the brain is not adequately stimulated due to the presence of these subluxations. This can cause problems throughout the body.
BrainCore Neurofeedback
Neurofeedback, also called EEG Biofeedback is a state-of-the-art, non-invasive, drugless method for teaching the brain to function in a more balanced and healthful way. A pleasant and simple learning modality that can help shift the way the brain produces and distributes its electrical energy. Four divisions of electrical impulses made by our brain, Delta, Theta, Alpha and Beta are called “Frequency Bands”. These Frequency Bands tell us which parts of your brain are active and which frequency bands the brain should be using to complete a given task, activity or should be most active during different states of mind.
How it Works
Individuals are connected to a computer using wires and sensors, thereby allowing the BrainCore technology to monitor the brainwave activity. The software automatically detects when the brainwaves are properly ordered and feeds that information back to the patient in real time. The feedback appears in the form of a game, movie, or sound which signals to the patient that the brainwaves are becoming more ordered. The patient’s own brainwaves actually control the game, movie or sound activity, and the observation of this dynamic helps the brain learn how to improve its own regulation.
Why Does Neurofeedback Work?
The brain learns by forming connections between nerve cells and utilizing important pathways that connect different locations in the brain. The more frequently you utilize these pathways the better the brain becomes at performing the associated task. Quite simply, Neurofeedback offers the perfect learning conditions, since it facilitates awareness of when the brain is producing healthier brainwave patterns, provides reinforcement for the positive change and multiple opportunities to provide practice during a training session.
